TOURIST VISA ON ARRIVAL (ETA) TO INDIA

International travelers whose objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit

Tourist Visa on Arrival also known as Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) was announced by the Indian Government on November 26th, 2014.

Although the Visa was purposed to make travelling to India easier, there are a few restrictions:

  • ETA is valid for entry through nine designated airports ONLY
    • Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Trivandrum
  • Validity of ETA will be 30 days from date of issue, good for a Single Entry into India and valid for a stay up to 30 days
  • Passport should have at least 6 months validity beyond intended stay
  • Travelers should have a return/future ticket, with sufficient funds to support his/her stay in India
  • ETA processing time is around 4 to 5 business days
  • Travelers should carry a copy of issued ETA along with him/her at the time of travel
  • Biometric details (fingerprints) of travelers will be mandatorily captured by Immigration Officials upon arrival at the airport in India
  • ETA is allowed for a maximum of two visits per calendar year
  • ETA issued on arrival is non-extendable, non-convertible and is not valid for visiting Protected/Restricted and Cantonment Areas
  • ETA is not available for Official/Diplomatic Passport holders
