REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN VISA TO ENTER COSTA RICA
TOURIST TRAVEL
- U.S. Passport must be valid upon arrival and departure in Costa Rica
- Tickets and Documents for return or future travel
- No Visa is required for stay up to 90 days (extension is possible)
- Vaccinations – International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever required if arriving from infected area within 5 days
BUSINESS TRAVEL
- U.S. Passport must be valid upon arrival and departure in Costa Rica
- Tickets and Documents for return or future travel
- No Visa is required for stay up to 90 days

DIPLOMATIC/OFFICIAL TRAVEL
- U.S. Official/Diplomatic Passport must be valid upon arrival and departure in Costa Rica
- Tickets and Documents for return or future travel
- No Visa is required for stay up to 90 days
- Vaccinations – International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever required if arriving from infected area within 5 days

U.S. Citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business travel to this country. Any U.S. Citizen who wishes to travel to Costa Rica for any purpose other than tourism or business negotiations (e.g. work, study, adoption, immigration, or stays longer than stipulated in the entry requirements) should contact the Embassy/Consulate directly.
